EP / ENVI Committee: "COP 30 is just around the corner" (Lena Schilling, MEP, Greens / Austria)

With 57 votes in favour, 23 against, and four abstentions, the Envi (Environment) Committee members of the European Parliament adopted, on the 07/10/2025, the resolution on their demands on European commitments and stance at Belem's COP 30. This resolution will be put to a vote during the plenary session on 20-23/10/2025.

The resolution stated that the EU should continue to lead international climate negotiations. It calls on all countries to contribute their fair share to adequate climate financing, and urge the Council to adopt as soon as possible the EU’s climate pledge for 2035. They regret the fact that the EU did not submit on time its updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) to the Paris Agreement. The text also underlines the need to adopt a science-based EU climate target for 2040 in accordance with the European Climate Law. It asks for global efforts to reduce emissions by involving all sectors, such as the defence sector, road transport, methane, international shipping, agriculture, textiles and tourism.
