CO2 markets and infrastructures: public consultation open by the European Commission

A public consultation on the legislation and impact assessment on CO2 markets and infrastructure in the EU is open from 06/10/2025 to 09/01/2026.

The consultation is based in particular on the Communication on the 2040 climate target and its impact assessment, which recognise the role of CCUS in reducing GHG emissions from sectors that are difficult to decarbonise. "The industrial carbon management strategy, thanks to CCUS, has an important role to play in reducing greenhouse gas emissions", states the Commission.

The comments received will serve as a basis for the initiative that the Commission will present in 2026.
