15.8%: this is the share of renewable energies in French primary energy consumption in 2024, according to the 2025 edition of the "Key figures for renewable energies" report drawn up by the Sdes (Service des Données et Etudes Statistiques / French public Data and Statistic Agency) and published on 29/09/2025. Primary consumption of renewable energies was 407 TWh in 2024, an increase of 4.9% (388 TWh in 2023).

Primary production of renewable energy was 381 TWh in 2024, compared with 365 TWh in 2023 (+4%). France was Europe's second-largest producer of renewable energy in 2023, behind Germany. It ranked first for heat pumps and second for hydroelectricity, solid biomass, geothermal energy and renewable household waste.

Renewable energies accounted for €21.7 Bn of investment in 2022, compared with €14.4 Bn in 2021 (+51%) and 118,000 jobs (102,000 jobs in 2021; +16%). In 2022, total revenues from renewable electricity producers were €2.4 billion higher than subsidies paid. The French government invested €183m in research and development (R&D) in renewable energies.
