The aim of the Hydrogen Acceleration Act, presented by the German government on 01/10/2025, is to facilitate the development of hydrogen infrastructures. The legislation encompasses the entire hydrogen supply chain, including onshore and offshore electrolysers, import facilities for hydrogen and its derivatives, storage facilities, pipelines and synthetic fuel production facilities.

" Developing the hydrogen infrastructure is essential for the growth of the hydrogen economy. Current authorisation procedures are still too slow and bureaucratic. This bill will simplify procedures, digitise processes and guarantee greater speed', says Katherina Reiche, Germany's Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy.

German parliamentarians will now have to examine the bill. The German government has already approved measures to accelerate hydrogen storage in the law on accelerating geothermal energy, which is due to come into effect in August 2025.
