Team Europe package for Africa's transition: €545 million for nine countries

Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, announced, on 27/09/2025, that Team Europe would provide a €545 million package to support nine African countries in their clean energy transition. The Ivory Coast will be the main beneficiary of this sum: the country will receive €359.4 M to build a high-voltage transmission line, called the 'Dorsale Est'.
Similarly, Cameroon will receive €59.1 million to electrify 687 rural communities; it will enable access to electricity for over 2.5 million people. Madagascar will also receive €33.2 M to expand electrification using mini grids in rural areas. The six other beneficiary countries announced are the Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Ghana, Central Africa, Mozambique and Somalia.

Ursula von der Leyen announced this via video message at the Global Citizen Festival during the United Nations General Assembly.
