"The 2025 Europe's environment report serves as an environmental health check to inform European and national decision makers, as well as our citizens. To be frank, we are not doing well", declares Leena Ylä-Mononen, Executive Director of the EEA (European Environment Agency) in Brussels on 29/09/2025.

"While we have made significant progress in reducing GHG emissions and air pollution, the overall state of Europe's environment is not good. The impacts of climate change are accelerating, and environmental degradation continues, threatening Europe's health, prosperity, competitiveness, and security.
Europe is the world's fastest-warming continent, and the climate is changing at an alarming rate. This threatens food and water security, public health, ecosystems, infrastructure, and the broader economy. These impacts will continue and worsen. Biodiversity is declining across land, freshwater, and marine ecosystems in Europe, due to persistent pressures driven by unsustainable production and consumption patterns, most notably in the food system.
