Luxembourg Peace Prize: Outstanding Environmental Peace Prize to T. Rinaudo for his FMNR technique

"Tony Rinaudo has been instrumental in tackling deforestation and desertification, beginning his efforts in Africa’s Sahel region, where he developed his FMNR (farmer-managed natural regeneration) technique, which has benefited millions of livelihoods", declares the Luxembourg Peace Prize, which awarded its 2025 Outstanding Environmental Peace Prize to this Australian agronomist, in Luxembourg City, on 25/09/2025.

Tony Rinaudo started developing this technique in Niger in the 1980s and is now an ambassador of the FMNR. "While living in Niger, I witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of deforestation and land degradation on the world’s most vulnerable people: children, women, and poor farm families. FMNR was born out of the bitterness of failure using conventional reforestation methods. FMNR’s subsequent adoption by millions of smallholder farmers transformed broken land and lives and restored hope.
