EU / CRCF: a "transparent" European register to be set up in 2028 (Valeria Forlin, DG Clima)

"The scope of the CRCF Act includes all natural activities, as well as technological activities that can remove carbon from the atmosphere or reduce emissions from land. It covers carbon storage in bio-based materials, such as construction materials, and emerging technologies, such as biochar or Bio-CCS. It includes rules on the quality of certified activities and the reliability of the certification process. We are currently building a transparent European register to record all certified units, which should be in place by 2028", announced Valeria Forlin, Deputy Head of the Land Economy and Carbon Absorption Unit at the European Commission's DG Clima, at the World Agri-Tech Innovation Summit in London on 22/09/2025, which News Tank attended.

The European Commission representative gave a speech about the development of the CRCF, the first voluntary certification framework for carbon absorption adopted by the European Parliament on 10/04/2024.
