"New renewable energy capacities do not replace fossil fuels" (Valérie Besson, KPMG)

"Renewable energies are reaching record levels of development, but to cover only 80% of the growing demand for energy. In the end, new renewable capacities are adding to fossil fuels but not replacing them," Valérie Besson, partner at KPMG France and Head of the French energy, natural resources and chemicals sector, told News Tank on 24/09/2025.

KPMG, in partnership with the Energy Institute and Kearney, publishes the 74^th edition of the Statistical Review of World Energy, which "provides an overview of global trends in energy consumption, demand, production and CO2 emissions".
