The European Commission wants to postpone the entry into force of the EUDR (⁦EU Deforestation Regulation) by one year, from the 31/12/2025 to the 31/12/2026. This postponement is due to an IT technical problem, according to a source at the Commission, as the in-house system, which is used in more than twenty other policy areas, was expected to receive 100 million declarations by companies per year initially, but there should be ten times more.

"This is an IT issue, and does not put into question our strong commitment to the objectives of the EUDR. We are raising this issue to make sure that the EUDR is implemented correctly. As this is the first of its kind legislation, there is no blueprint and a great number of uncertainties. It has become apparent that the amount of DDS (declarations from importers and other operators) that will be submitted widely exceeds expectations. Therefore, this poses a risk to the proper functioning of the system. We have to step back and see how we can address this risk", declares a senior EU official.
