Offshore wind: preliminary injonction granted by an US court to resume work on Revolution Wind wind farm

A federal court in the District of Columbia (USA) has granted a preliminary injunction for the resumption of work on the Revolution Wind offshore wind farm, pending a lawsuit challenging the stoppage of work, Orsted reported on 22/09/2025.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (Boem) had ordered Orsted to halt activities on the Outer Continental Shelf in connection with the wind farm project on 22/08/2025.

Revolution Wind is a 704 MW project owned by Revolution Wind LLC, a 50/50 joint venture between Orsted and Skyborn Renewables, and located off the coast of Connecticut and Rhode Island. Construction began in 2023 and the project is expected to be fully operational in 2026. The project is 80% complete as of 22/08/2025 with 45 of the 65 wind turbines installed, Orsted says.

Revolution Wind has 20-year power purchase agreements to supply 400 MW of electricity to Rhode Island and 304 MW to Connecticut, enough to power more than 350,000 homes in both states and meet growing energy demand," Orsted says.
