Creation of Finvest@ETAF: IRENA and ICAO common platform to facilitate investment for SAFs

IRENA (International Renewable Energy Agency) and ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) announced the launch of ‘Finvest@ETAF’, during the 42^nd ICAO Assembly, held in Montreal in 22/09/2025. This common portal aims at supporting SAFs (Sustainable aviation fuels) and other projects to decarbonise the civil aviation sector.

The Finvest@ETAF portal, hosted on IRENA’s ETAF (Energy Transition Accelerator Financing) platform, will increase synergies between the two organisations. Indeed, if IRENA is more focused on investment facilitation, ICAO is well known for their technical expertise: this alliance should make it easier to fund the projects to clean up the aviation industry.

Indeed, Finvest@ETAF will serve as a single entry point for project developers seeking investment, linking proposals with a global network of public and private financiers. Project submissions will undergo joint screening by IRENA and ICAO experts, combining technical due diligence with investment readiness assessments, before being presented to financing and de-risking partners under the ETAF Platform…
