"We need to maintain the objectives of moving towards more virtuous agriculture, but with appropriate standards. Regeneration and transition systems are a step in the right direction, but we need to move away from standards and towards a holistic, systemic development, with an obligation to put in place the means to make progress on a number of issues. This would allow farms to be more flexible in response to the experiences of farmers, rather than adhering to a text edited in Brussels that is not necessarily in line with farm reality", says Olivier Dauger, FNSEA (Fédération Nationale des Syndicats d'Exploitants Agricoles / French largest farmers' union) administrator in charge of climate, energy and carbon issues.


He was attending a panel to discuss the current wave of simplification of agricultural policies and standards, particularly at European and national level, on 16/09/2025, as part of the 5th Sustainable Food Meetings organised by the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation, in Paris.
