Australia: 4.13 GW of storage capacity awarded as part of a call for tenders

4.13 GW: this is the storage capacity awarded by the Australian government on 16/09/2025. The capacity is being allocated under the third round of the Capacity Investment Scheme, dedicated to renewable energy generation and battery storage.

124 bids were submitted, totalling around 34 GW: 16 of them have been selected, to fulfill the 4 GW originally called for. The 4.13 GW should be sufficient for the peak load of more than 3.5 million homes over a four-hour period.

The third round of the tender is expected to create around 1,900 construction jobs and more than 100 operation and maintenance jobs over 20 years.

" In three short years, our reliable renewable energy plan has unlocked record levels of investment in Australia's energy grid, while providing good jobs, training and community benefits for the people who host this vital new infrastructure, which is increasingly made in Australia," says Chris Bowen, Australia's Minister for Climate Change and Energy.
