Biogas: 1,122 facilities connected by 30/06/2025; 771 injecting biomethane (Sdes)

1,122 biogas plants were connected to the grid as at 30/06/2025, according to the quarterly scoreboard published by the Sdes (Service des données et études statistiques / French public data and statistics service) on 29/08/2025. Total installed capacity is 585 MW. During the second quarter of 2025, an additional 1 MW was connected, and there were no deratings during this period.

Facilities with a capacity of +1 MW account for 12% of the fleet and 55% of installed capacity. Methanisation facilities account for 83% of the installed capacity and 54% of the total capacity. At 30/06/2025, the capacity of projects in the waiting queue stood at 46 MW.

Electricity production from biogas amounted to 658 GWh in the second quarter of 2025, or 0.7% of French electricity consumption. The Grand Est (95 MW), Île-de-France (72 MW), Hauts-de-France (57 MW) and Nouvelle-Aquitaine (52 MW) regions account for almost half of the total installed capacity for electricity generation from biogas.
