EU: 'Unlocking e-fuels, securing AFIF and completing TEN-T: our recommendations on the STIP' (T&E)

"The STIP (Sustainable Transport Investment Plan) should focus on unlocking e-fuels for aviation and shipping, securing AFIF (alternative fuels infrastructure facility) as a key tool for clean transport infrastructure, and completing the electrification of TEN-T for road transport", recommends T&E (Transport & Environment) in their submission to the Commission-launched call for evidence about STIP priorities and contents, which ended on 04/09/2025.

The Sustainable Transport Investment Plan aims to boost public and private investments into renewable and low-carbon fuels to decarbonise the transport sector.

"This strategic European initiative is key to unlocking the financing urgently needed to decarbonise the transport sector, particularly aviation and maritime transport, which are particularly difficult to decarbonise", declares T&E on 09/09/2025.

Their main recommendations are:

• Prioritising e-fuels or RNFBOs (Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological origin) in the aviation and shipping sector;
• Creating an RCM (Revenue Certainty Mechanism) to develop EU e-fuel projects;
