"The EU weakens the rules that safeguard people and the environment" : call to the European Institutions

470 civil society, trade unions and public interest groups call on Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, EU commissioners and EU Member States to stop "the deregulation campaign that takes center stage in the European Commission's strategy for this term", on 09/09/2025, prior to von der Leyen's speech on the "State of the Union", that will take place in Strasbourg (France), on 10/09/2025.

Signatories include CAN Europe, the Corporate Europe Observatory, EDRi (European Digital Rights), EEB (European Environmental Bureau), EPSU (European Public Services Union), FoEE (Friends of the Earth Europe), Global 2000, Oxfam, CIEL (Center for International Environmental Law), Fair Finance International, and 460 groups in Europe and worldwide.

Their main demands are:

• Laws for stronger protections of people and civil society organisations;
• More transparency and accountability from companies and EU activities;
• Implementation of existing EU laws;
• More consultation of civil society, trade unions and impacted communities in the process of EU law-making.
