"The development of flexibilities remains a major challenge" (Commission de Régulation de l'Energie / FR)

"In 2024, the electricity and gas supply-demand balance and wholesale prices were more favourable, but the development of flexibilities to respond to fluctuations in demand and supply on the electricity grid remains a major challenge. The pace of electrification is also a key issue if the energy transition is to succeed", states the CRE in its annual report to the European Commission and Acer in July 2025, published on 04/09/2025.

The document sets out the main developments on the electricity and gas markets from January 2024 to July 2025 and the role of the CRE.

Against this backdrop, the CRE "has given the gas and electricity networks the resources they need for future-proof development, reorganised its wholesale market supervision activities to improve efficiency, helped restore consumer confidence after the crisis, played its part in implementing support measures for renewable electricity generation and in considering how to better integrate renewable energies into the electricity system".
