Wind: 6.8 GW of new capacity installed in Europe during H1 2025; 5.3 GW in the EU (WindEurope)

6.8 GW: this is the new wind energy capacity installed in Europe in the first half of 2025, according to WindEurope in its report "The latest data on wind energy in Europe - Autumn 2025", published on 03/09/2025. During this period, countries in the European Union installed 5.3 GW. The EU now has a total installed capacity of 291 GW.

The figure for Europe is up 6.2% on the first half of 2024 (6.4 GW) and down 7% in the EU over the same period (5.7 GW). 89% of new capacity is land-based. Germany is the country that installed the most capacity in the first half of 2025, with 2.2 GW over the period, followed by Spain with 889 MW and the UK with 760 MW. Over the period, France installed 380 MW of onshore capacity and 96 MW offshore, for a total of 476 MW.

Over the period, Europe took €34 billion of final investment decisions (FID) in new wind farms, ordered 11.3 GW of new turbines, and governments allocated 11.7 GW of new wind capacity via auctions in the first half of 2025 (10.7 GW onshore and 1 GW offshore).
