EU: launch of two calls for evidence on electrification and district heating & cooling

The European Union's electrification action plan and its heating and cooling strategy are the subject of two calls for contributions launched by the European Commission from 28/08 to 20/11/2025. They are open to all citizens.

Electricity accounts for less than 25% of final energy consumption. The Electrification Action Plan aims to accelerate electrification, with investments in clean energy and flexibility. The consultation seeks comments on the role of electrification in the transport, industry and buildings sectors.

Heating and cooling account for around half of the EU's energy consumption, 70% of which is dependent on fossil fuels, mainly gas. The EU strategy on heating and cooling aims to improve energy efficiency and advance the decarbonisation of heating and cooling. The strategy will support the implementation of existing legislation and propose ways to improve efficiency in areas such as energy infrastructure planning, district heating and waste heat recovery. The consultation seeks comments on the scope and content of the strategy.
