The European Investment Bank's Board of Directors has approved financing of €5.4bn for Europe's ecological transition and energy security, the EIB announced on 27/08/2025.

The projects include an offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea, small-scale photovoltaic power stations and battery storage systems in Italy, the modernisation and extension of electricity grids in Germany, renewable energy projects in France and energy efficiency in the EU.

A €500m programme has also been approved by the EIB's Board of Directors to strengthen Ukraine's energy security and support affordable housing. In particular, the EIB will support Naftogaz, Ukraine's state-owned energy company, as part of an emergency measure to finance the replenishment of the country's natural gas reserves before the winter.

" Naftogaz has undertaken to reinvest an amount equivalent to the EIB loan in renewable energy and decarbonisation projects. The European Commission will support this loan through a guarantee under the EU-Ukraine Investment Framework", says the EIB.
