Ireland: Publication of the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Policy Roadmap

The aim of the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Policy Roadmap, presented by the Irish government on 21/08/2025, is to set out a national strategy to ensure the rapid adoption of sustainable aviation fuels, meet European obligations and prepare for long-term domestic production from renewable resources in Ireland.

The document aims to identify and structure the opportunities and constraints around the import, deployment and, in the long term, domestic production of SAF. It comprises four strategic areas:
• Creating visibility and market stability for investors and airlines, while implementing EU SAF quota requirements;
• Creating the conditions for collaboration between airlines, fuel producers and energy players, as well as public institutions and universities;
• Supporting the use of SAF in the short term by investing in logistics infrastructure and providing financial incentives;
• Stimulating a domestic SAF industry in the medium and long term. In Ireland, there will be no commercial production of FAS in 2025.
