"Adopt an ambitious European 2040 climate target to drive growth on the continent" (UFE / France)

On 27/08/2025, the Union française de l'électricité (UFE) and Impact France, an employers' organisation, called for the adoption of a European climate target for 2040 that is "ambitious and growth-enhancing, backed by a clear, pragmatic framework that preserves the competitiveness of European businesses".

"The European Commission's proposal for a 90% reduction in netGHG emissions by 2040 is a major milestone in Europe's climate trajectory. This target, which is consistent with the commitments made in the Paris Agreement, is also eagerly awaited by our international partners in the run-up to COP 30 in Belém (Brazil). The European Union, and its Member States, including France, has the opportunity to send a strong message of leadership at a decisive moment for global climate diplomacy", state the co-signatories.

UFE and Impact France are proposing "to transform this climate ambition into an industrial success story":
