Batteries: acquisition by Lyten (USA) of all remaining Northvolt assets in Sweden and Germany

Lyten has entered into binding agreements to acquire Northvolt Ett and Ett Expansion, Northvolt Labs, Northvolt Drei and all remaining intellectual property rights of Northvolt in Sweden and Germany, the American group announced on 07/08/2025.

Northvolt was a Swedish battery developer and manufacturer, specialising in lithium-ion technology for electric vehicles, founded in 2016 and bankrupted on 12/03/2025. Lyten is an American company specialising in advanced materials, developing composites, sensors and lithium-sulphur batteries, founded in 2015.

The group plans to rehire a "significant" part of the teams made redundant following the filing for bankruptcy with the Stockholm court (Sweden) on 12/03/2025. Several members of Northvolt's current management team plan to join Lyten.

The newly acquired assets were previously valued at approximately $5 Bn and include 16 GWh of operational battery production capacity with more than 15 GWh under construction, infrastructure and plans to grow to more than 100 GWh, as well as Europe's largest and most advanced battery R&D centre (Västerås)…
