"Breaching planetary boundaries: Over half of global land area suffers critical losses in functional biosphere integrity" is the latest study of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), published on 15/08/2025.

"This research maps two global indicators that track human pressure on ecosystems, as well as ecological disruption, and shows that the integrity of ecosystems has already been critically compromised across large parts of the planet. These findings can inform global and local environmental governance, helping policy-makers, conservation agencies, and land-use planners to avoid further breaching of these boundaries and limiting the risk of triggering large-scale, abrupt, or irreversible environmental changes", outline the authors.
