EU / EIB : €875 M investment supported under InvestEU for the new Lisbon-Porto high-speed line

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has signed €875 M financing - supported by InvestEU, the EU flagship programme to support sustainable investment (2021-2027), innovation and job creation in Europe - with Avan Norte- Gestao De Ferrovia de Alta Velocidade to build the Porto-Campanhã to Oiã section of the Lisbon-Porto high speed line.

This is the first tranche of a total €3 Bn financing approved by the EIB for this project. Once completed, the Lisbon-Porto high speed line will short travel time between the two cities to 1 hour 15 minutes, serving almost 9 million passengers per year. This financing is the largest single contract signed under InvestEU by the EIB.

The InvestEU programme provides the European Union with long-term funding by mobilising substantial private and public funds in support of a sustainable recovery. Its budget guarantee will back the investment projects of the implementing partners.
