EU: approval of a €134 m Danish State aid scheme to support industrial decarbonisation

€134 m (DKK 1 Bn); it is the amount of the Danish scheme approved by the European Commission, on 29/07/2025, to support companies in their efforts to reduce GHG emissions. The scheme will enable the transition to more environmentally friendly fuels, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions linked to industrial activities and ferries.

The Danish State aid will take the form of direct grants and will be granted via a competitive bidding, where companies will compete on their bid price per ton of CO₂ avoided. The grants will cover the additional costs incurred when using more environmentally friendly fuels. Eligible beneficiaries are companies active in industrial and ferries sectors. The aid will be paid only if the beneficiaries would not be able to switch to the more environmentally friendly fuel without public support. The scheme will be in place until September 2028 and grants will be paid annually for a period of up to 10 years.
