"Patriots for Europe firmly rejects the European Commission's proposal for a new, legally binding climate target for 2040. In the current context of war, economic uncertainty and migration pressures, the 90% emissions reduction target is not a realistic plan — it's an ideological experiment that threatens European industry, jobs, and welfare", posted the group on X, on 24/07/2025.

On 02/07/2025, the European Commission presented its updated strategy to reach climate neutrality in 2050 in the EU, with an unchanged 90% net GHG emissions target for 2040 relative to 1990 levels, while adding new flexibilities and the introduction of carbon credits outside of the EU as possibilities to reach the goal. The European Parliament named Ondřej Knotek, PfE MEP, rapporteur of the proposal at the Plenary session in Strasbourg on 08/07/2025.
