23,000 tonnes per year: this will be the renewable hydrogen production of ELYgator, a 200 MW electrolyser project in Maasvlakte, in the port of Rotterdam (Netherlands), for which Air Liquide has announced its FID on 23/07/2025.

This decision follows the Dutch government's support through the OWE programme (Opschaling Waterstofproductie via Elektrolyse), in which Air Liquide was one of the winners announced on 18/07/2025. The programme aims to reduce the cost differential between the production of green and fossil hydrogen for businesses.

" This complements the support provided by the EU Innovation Fund and the Dutch IPCE programme," says Air Liquide.

Air Liquide will invest more than €500m to build, own and operate ELYgator.

This electrolyser targets industry and heavy mobility, and will be able to reduce CO₂ emissions by 300,000 tonnes per year, according to Air Liquide. In particular, it will supply TotalEnergies' industrial platform under a long-term contract: 120 MW will thus be dedicated to the production of 15,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year for the TotalEnergies platform…
