EU: "The Green Claims Directive is needed": 35 businesses and NGOs' call to the Danish Presidency

35 businesses, business associations, advertising industry organisations, certification schemes and civil society organisations addressed a letter to Mette Frederiksen, the Danish Prime Minister, on 17/07/2025, to call on the Presidency of the Council of the EU to restart the trilogue negotiations for the EU Green Claims Directive.

The Green Claims Directive aims to fix the legal framework for businesses in their use of environmental certifications and labels, thus preventing greenwashing and improving consumers' access to transparent information about products.

The trilogue negotiations, supposed to end on 23/06/2025, were finally cancelled. The Commission announced on 20/06/2025 its intent to withdraw the proposal if microentreprises were included (around 96% of EU's businesses), but it has not formally done so as of today.
