Green hydrogen/Netherlands: State subsidies to 11 projects with a production capacity of 602 MW

11 - that's the number of green hydrogen production projects that have won a call for projects launched in 2024, announced the Dutch government on 18/07/2025. The companies behind the projects have applied for more than €3.2 billion in subsidies. The aim is to reduce the cost difference between the production of green hydrogen and fossil hydrogen for businesses.

" The winners will receive a combined grant of more than €700m for their projects under the OWE (Opschaling Waterstofproductie via Elektrolyse) programme. This grant is intended for companies building an electrolyser of 0.5 MW or more to produce hydrogen from renewable electricity", says RVO, the Dutch business agency.

The winning electrolyser projects have a combined capacity of around 602 MW, three times that of the largest hydrogen plant currently under construction in the Netherlands, which will also power 5,000 hydrogen-powered lorries per year.

The subsidy supports the investment costs of the installation and production for a minimum of five years and a maximum of 10 years. Winners have until mid-2030 to finalise their…
