Solar PV deployment: 2024, best year ever recorded in France (IEA study)

With more than 6 GW installed in France, 2024 is the best year on record for photovoltaics in the country, according to the International Energy Agency's national survey of PV applications in France, carried out with the support of Ademe and consulted by News Tank on 22/07/2025.

3.3 GW of the 6 GW newly installed benefit from feed-in tariffs. Total installed capacity is around 30 GW DC (25 GW AC), more than two-thirds of which is positioned on rooftops in the residential, commercial and industrial segments.

Commercial systems between 100 kW and 250 kW represent the main segment (35% of new capacity, up 10% on 2023), with more than 2 GW installed, "above the volume planned (and budgeted) by the State". The residential segment saw its share drop by 5%, while the industrial and large-scale segments "fell back slightly to 35%, a long way from the 66% observed in 2021". Around half of new residential and commercial capacity is installed for self-consumption, which is on the rise (+10%).
