"The hydrogen market remains a niche segment, with no prospect of economic sustainability in the medium term," said Jean-Philippe Imparato, Head of European Operations at Stellantis, on 16/07/2025. "We need to make clear and responsible choices to ensure our competitiveness and meet our customers' expectations. "

The manufacturer announced on 16/07/2025 the interruption of its hydrogen fuel cell technology development programme "due to the limited availability of hydrogen refuelling infrastructure, high capital requirements and the need to strengthen consumer purchase incentives, the company does not anticipate the adoption of hydrogen-powered light commercial vehicles before the end of the decade."

Stellantis will not launch its new range of hydrogen-powered Pro One vehicles planned for 2025. The company says this decision will have no impact on staff at Stellantis production sites. "R&D activities related to hydrogen technology will be redirected to other projects".
