EU: Agreement on 2040 climate targets, n°1 priority for the Danish EU Presidency

Reaching an agreement on the EU's 2040 climate target, making progress on the simplification packages, breaking Europe's dependence on Russian energy - these are just some of the priorities of the Danish Presidency presented to the European Parliament's committees on 15 and 16/07/2025.

Denmark has taken over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from 01/07 to 31/12/2025.

Envi Committee

  • Reach agreement on the EU's 2040 climate target, to provide clear direction for climate action, investment and industrial competitiveness. This agreement is needed before COP 30 in Brazil from 10 to 21/11/2025, to show the EU's leadership and unity.

"Some MEPs were concerned about the accessibility of energy and the social impact of the new emissions trading scheme, while others pointed out that excessive flexibility would undermine the 2040 target", says the European Parliament.
