Renewable energies: "Growing disengagement from climate and environmental issues" (Rana Adib, Ren21)

"There is a growing disengagement from climate and environmental issues. In some countries, such as France, arguments of social injustice are being used to challenge certain climate policies. Nevertheless, the last three years have demonstrated that achieving energy sovereignty requires a transition away from fossil fuels. Nevertheless, some governments are still confusing the issue., Rana Adib, Executive Director of Ren21 (Renewables Network), told News Tank on 10/07/2025.

She was reacting to the publication by Ren21 of the Renewables 2025 Global Status Report. According to the report, 740 GW of renewable capacity were added globally in 2025, less than half of what is needed to meet the COP28 target.

"There has been a sharp increase in trade tariffs over the past year: there were nine last year, compared with around 212 today, of which around 50 specifically target solar and wind power.
