EU/Parliament: Climate Law urgent procedure rejected, EUDR to be reexamined

The European Parliament adopted an objection to the EUDR (European Union Deforestation regulation), concerning the benchmarking of low and high-risk countries to deforestation, during its plenary meeting in Strasbourg, on 09/07/2025. MEPs also rejected the call for an urgent decision concerning the European Climate Law.

The objection to two rules of the EUDR focused on the classification of low- and high-risk countries for deforestation. It was accepted by 373 MEPs, rejected by 289, with 26 abstentions. On 07/07/2025, 18 Ministers of the EU called the Commission for a simplification and removal of diligence requirements for low-risk countries, which all EU members are part of. The Parliament now asks the Commission to reexamine its classification of countries.


The vote for an urgent procedure motion on the European Climate Law was requested by Renew, S&D and the Greens (EFA group).
