EC: 852 €M granted for six EV battery cell gigafactories through the Innovation Fund

€852M from the Innovation Fund, using revenues from the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), granted to six electric vehicle (EV) battery cell manufacturing projects in four Member States: this is the total amount of grants, announced by the European Commission on 04/07/2025, following the first Battery Call launched in december 2024.

These six projects, located in France, Germany, Sweden and Poland, have been selected among a total of 14 proposals and were selected through an evaluation by independent experts against seven award criteria: the projects' degree of innovation; their potential to reduce GHG emissions including the carbon footprint of the manufacturing process itself; operational, financial, and technical maturity; replicability; contributions to the EUs security of supply and cost efficiency.
Other projects that were promising but insufficiently mature projects will be able to receive project development assistance from the European Investment Bank.
