GHG in France: 366 Mt CO2e in 2025; 32.9 for the energy industry (Emissions barometer, Citepa)

For 2025, greenhouse gas emissions in France are expected to reach 366 Mt CO2e, according to Citepa's first barometer forecast, published on 04/07/2025. This figure is 0.8% lower than in 2024 (369 MtCO2e)

GHG emissions from the energy industry sector are estimated at 32.9 Mt CO2e, down 0.3 Mt CO2e on 2024 (33.2).

" This slight reduction in GHG emissions would confirm the slowdown in the trend observed in recent years. Indeed, after sharp falls in 2022 and 2023 (-3.9% and -6.8%), a smaller fall of -1.8% had already been estimated between 2023 and 2024 in the latest Secten report published on 16/06/2025", says Citepa.

" The sharp falls in emissions from the energy sector seen over the past two years are set to slow down in 2025. This was due in particular to the reduction in emissions associated with electricity generation and changes in the energy mix. The use of nuclear power should stabilise in the second half of 2025, remaining at a historically high level.
