EU: launch of a new Life Sciences Strategy covering the whole span of living systems

A Life Science Strategy to unlock the full potential of this major sector, ranging from human health to food systems, is being launched by the Commission, announces the institution in Brussels, on 02/07/2025. Building on the former (2024) Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing strategy, it covers a wider span, including new areas such as food, health, pharmaceuticals, and the environment.
Life sciences - the study of living systems, from cells to ecosystems - are central to human and animal health, environment and economy. They amount to nearly €1.5 trillion in value to the EU economy and support 29 million jobs across the Union. Backed by more than €10 bn annually from the current EU budget, the strategy sets out a coordinated approach across the entire life sciences value chain. It aims to accelerate innovation, facilitate market access, and build public trust in new technologies, ensuring they benefit the people and the planet.
