EU/Council : Danish Presidency's agenda for a "competitive and green" Europe

A "secure, competitive and green Europe" : these are the three key words announced by the Danish Presidency of the Council of the European Union to qualify its priorities during its 6-months mandate, running from 01/07/2025 until 31/12/2025, succeeding Poland.

For all environment-related issues, its program focuses on green competitiveness, with a focus on the simplification of environment-related legislations, in accordance to demands from certain member States and stakeholders.

"The green transition can and should drive growth, and climate and energy policies should continue to be closely linked to competitiveness policy. To strengthen long-term competitiveness, burdens on businesses, citizens, and authorities must be reduced. This means simplifying current laws and ensuring that future regulation is clearer and more targeted", states the Presidency program.

Environmental priorities of the Council include reaching an agreement on the 2040 EU climate target, which should be presented by the Commission on 02/07/2025, in order to submit EU NDCs before COP30 with a 2035 target derived…
