"Climate resilience must be integrated into all our policies: competitiveness, security and prosperity. It is present in a lot of the Commissioners' mission orders, not only Hoekstra's Commission for climate, net-zero and clean growth", declares Elina Bardram, director of DG Clima, who presented the Commission's Climate Adaptation Plan to MEPs in the ENVI Committee in Brussels on 24/06/2025.

"Climate threat is one of the many threats in the landscape we are dealing with, alongside instability, geopolitical shifts and power competition. Climate acts as a threat multiplier. Many of these scenarios are interconnected and need to be addressed in a synergetic way. Scarcity of water resources can lead to social tensions and changes in weather conditions and increased droughts can impact GDP figures in agriculture. Europe is heating up twice as fast as the global average.
