"The goal of our project is to build a network that recovers the waste heat produced by industries to supply the district heating networks of the city of Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin)," says Maxime Augst, Director of Operations at R-Cue, during a visit to the Blue Paper industrial paper mill on 23/06/2025.

The Blue Paper industrial paper mill is part of the R-Pas project (Port Autonome de Strasbourg heating network), launched in 2015 through a partnership between energy company R-Cue, the Port Autonome de Strasbourg and Banque des Territoires. Blue Paper supplies the heating networks with around 80 GWh/year.

" The heat is sent to the network in the city of Strasbourg, located to the west, and also supplies Rhéna, a clinic located near the port. The recovered fumes are at 150°C. We pass them through an exchanger, then a heat pump to recover heat with a capacity of 6,500 kW, ending up at 90°C, which is an acceptable temperature for the type of installation involved," explains Maxime Augst.
