EU countries: €76 B invested in environmental protection in 2024, 2% of total EUinvestment (Eurostat)

"In 2024, EU countries invested about €76 B in assets essential for providing environmental protection services. These services include wastewater treatment plants, vehicles for transporting waste, acquisitions of land to create natural reserves, and cleaner equipment for production", estimates Eurostat on 17/06/2025.

"Between 2006 and 2024, environmental protection investments in the EU increased from €52 B to €76 B, accounting for 2% of total investments in 2024", it adds.

Ennvironmental protection investments have been allocated to:

• Wastewater management: 38.2%
• Waste management: 24.8%
• Protection against radiation, R&D and other (administrative and regulation activities, education, information and training activities): 14%
• Air and climate protection: 11.2%
• Soil and groundwater protection: 5.6%
• Biodiversity and landscape protection: 5.2%
• Noise reduction: 1.0%

From 2006 to 2024, the additional investments have been allocated in priority to wastewater management (from €23.2 B to €29 B), waste management (from €11.2 B to €18.8 B) and radiation, R&D and other (from €3.6 B to €10.6…
