France : Agreement between Total Energies and Avril to develop a SAF dedicated intermediate crop sector

TotalEnergies and Avril, a leading French agro-industrial group, signed an agreement to jointly study the development of a French intermediate crop sector to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), they announced on 18/06/2025.

"This agreement is part of an ambitious drive supported by the European Union, which requires the incorporation of 2% of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from 2025, with a target of 70% by 2050", declare the two groups.

ReFuelEU Aviation "promotes the increased use of SAF as the single most powerful tool to decrease aviation CO2 emissions. The measure is part of the Fit for 55 package to meet the emissions reduction target of 55% by 2030", indicates the European Commission's communication of the 2023/2405 EU Regulation.

Under their agreement, TotalEnergies and Avril will assess the entire value chain, from the selection of plant varieties to the production of biofuels, to structure a lasting French industry.
