European Commission : Eric Mamer appointed as Director-General at the DG for Environment (DG ENV)

The European Commission has appointed Eric Mamer as Director-General of the Directorate-General for Environment (DG ENV), a decision announced on 18/06/2025 and taking effect on 01/07/2025.

Eric Mamer, a French national, is a senior Commission official with more than 30 years of experience across EU institutions. He is currently serving as Director at the Commission’s advisory service IDEA (Inspire, Debate, Engage and Accelerate Action), and was previously the Commission’s Chief, Ursula von der Leyen, Spokesperson from 2019 to 2024.

Eric Mamer has previously held various senior roles, including Director for Competitiveness, International Affairs, Interinstitutional Affairs and Communication at DG GROW, and Deputy Head of Cabinet to Commissioner Günther H. Oettinger when he was in charge of energy (2012-2014) and later the digital economy and society (2014-2016).
