EuropaBio: call for a "Biotech Omnibus" to harmonize biotechnology legislation in the EU

A Biotech Omnibus to go beyond the EU Biotech Act, to harmonise the regulatory landscape and to accelerate financing: that's the proposal from the biotechnology sector association EuropaBio, issued the 10/06/2025.
"A Biotech Omnibus would allow to create a coherent, innovation-friendly regulatory environment without compromising high EU standards. Access to finance remains a persistent barrier in the EU, where fragmented and risk-averse capital markets create an investment gap,” states EuropaBio.
The association outlines three core objectives for the EU Biotech Act: securing faster and larger-scale financing, simplifying the regulatory landscape, and strengthening Europe’s global leadership in biotechnology.
"Future-proofing fundamental frameworks across all biotech applications including healthcare, agri-food supply chains, manufacturing processes, chemicals and consumer goods, is critical", concludes the association.
